In Charge Of Funeral Flowers? 4 You Can Choose From And Their Meaning

Derek Murphy

If you are in charge of choosing the flowers for your grandparent's funeral, this is not as easy as walking into a florist and making quick choices. You should put some thought into what you choose so your grandparent's funeral can be beautiful. Below are four flowers along with their meaning so you can choose what is best.

Lilies

If you walk into any funeral, you will likely see lilies displayed somewhere.  They are not only beautiful but they have a special meaning. This flower symbolizes the innocence has been restored to your grandparent's soul. Specific lilies known as stargazer lilies, symbolize sympathy, and any other type of white lily symbolizes purity and majesty. Lily of the Valley symbolizes purity of heart and sweetness. You could display lilies in baskets to sit around the funeral home.

Gladiolas

The gladiola flower is beautiful with tall flower stems with multiple flowers. Gladiolus symbolize moral integrity, sincerity and character. You can find them in a wide range of colors, such as green, salmon, orange, yellow, purple, red, pink, or white.

Gladiolus are generally used in fan sprays that are set near the casket. Fan sprays are placed on an easel. The flowers can be shaped in the form of crosses, hearts, wreathes, and other shapes.

Roses

White roses symbolize youthfulness, innocence, humility and reverence. Red roses symbolize courage, love and respect. Pink roses symbolize gentility, grace and love.  You could place a single rose in a bouquet or use them in the cascading spray that is placed over the casket. Prepare a flower arrangement full of roses and set them around the funeral home, such as at the entrance and on a table.  No matter how you use them, they will make the funeral look beautiful.

Carnations

You will often see the carnation flower at a funeral. You can find carnations in a wide range of colors and generally symbolizes distinction, fascination and love. Specific colors can have their own meanings, however. For example, white carnations symbolize good luck and pure love, and light red carnations symbolizes admiration. Dark red carnations symbolize affection and deep love. Carnations can be used in floral arrangements in baskets, or added to the flowers on a fan spray.

Consider the type of flowers your grandparent liked when choosing the flowers. Talk with a florist to help you, as well as how to arrange them at the funeral. For more information, contact a business such as Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel.
